A Healing Prayer for the World

Are you feeling confused too?

Place your left hand on your heart space, your right hand on your belly. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in and out. How do you feel in this present moment?

My current emotional state can best be described as “confused.” I feel glad that after two years of navigating Covid our day-to-day is finally back to normal while also grappling with the most recent geopolitical events. I am excited about the spring flowers and sunshine while also feeling devastated by the senseless war raging in Ukraine. I am happy and grateful that I get to do what I love every day while also grieving with the millions of people who are enduring indescribable pain and suffering. 

If this is you I want to let you know that it is OK to experience conflicting emotions at the same time. Life is full of paradoxes. Wonder and heartbreak continue to happen to and around us. It’s OK to feel it all. Your emotions are valid and real. And you are not alone! 

What typically helps me manage the ups and downs is my meditation practice. Time and time again. Meditation allows me to first observe and then accept whatever feelings arise and, once I have some clarity, figure out what to do with them. To either channel their energy into something productive or to let them go.

If you want to try it for yourself, I would like to share with you a guided meditation that I recently practiced with a group of yogis in my neighborhood. We came together to raise funds for Solid Rock Mission, a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian aid to people in Ukraine and refugees arriving in bordering countries.

May this meditation serve as a healing prayer for the world. May it offer you a moment of stillness in your confusion. May it help you make sense of your emotions. And may it assist you in figuring out what to do with them.
